Chinese automaker Chery Auto is Film noir Archivesconsidering the likelihood of making vehicles in the UK, which could become the company’s second major production hub in Europe next to its Spanish joint plant, the BBC reported earlier this week. The company has not yet made a final decision, the report added. Chery’s UK head Victor Zhang did not reveal many details about the plan, but pledged the company was determined to take a “localised” approach for the long term for the European market. The news comes after China’s biggest car exporter reached a joint venture deal with Spain’s EV Motors in April to produce its Omoda cars at a former Nissan plant in Barcelona later this year. State-owned Chery overtook peer SAIC as the largest car exporter from China with about 532,000 units in the first half of this year, and said last October it planned to launch sports utility vehicle models from three car brands, including Omoda and Jaecoo, in Europe during 2024-2025.
