During an appearance on the New York radio station Hot 97, Jackson criticized Jordan Peele's film Get Out for casting British actor, Daniel Kaluuya, instead of a black American actor. He argued that an American person of colour would understand the struggle of interracial dating in America more than one born in Britain where interracial coupling has had a longer history.

Jackson received backlash for his comments on social media -- including British actor and star of the new Star Wars film, John Boyega, who tweeted his frustration with Jackson's argument.

Aspiring filmmaker Gloria Tafa got in on the discussion when she called out Jackson in a Facebook post.

She asked him to consider the job of an actor, which is to do a character justice, not necessarily be them at the core. She also suggested he take up the issue with the people in charge of casting and not with black British actors who have a right to do their jobs.

Much to her surprise, Jackson heard her loud and clear.
